The Emoji movie is an entertainment film created by Sony Pictures Animation Company in which the story revolves in one specific emoji lived in the world called Textopolis. Gene, a “Meh” emoji was now going to be starting his job being a “Meh” emoji, accompany by the Smiler or the smile emoji.
From the first event of this films, I was surprise to see emojis roaming around inside the message app, in reality basis more like a people everywhere, roaming around and talking stuffs with others.

I expected that this movie will be based on the life of being emoji, literally all emojis and their responsibilities as an emoji. But as the movie progresses, it focuses on one specific protagonist, named Gene, a “Meh” emoji that have so many emotions to portray. Well the goal in Textopolis is when Alex, the owner of the phone, is to be able to acquire a specific emotion of the emoji which he will choose in order to send it to his crush, Addie through message app.
At first it went well until Alex selected Gene, the “Meh” emoji in order to portray that the lesson was boring and send it to Addie, but when Gene will scan the “Meh” emotion to him, he was freak out and instead of sending a very specific “Meh” emotion, instead he makes a wrong, different emotion. After that incident the Smiler decide to delete Gene because he will be the reason Alex will think that his phone is broken and jammed. After the chase Gene met Hi-5, an emoji in which Alex do not care to use anymore, and helped Gene in an adventure to fix themselves and retain their reputation in order to be useful in Textopolis.

The awesome scenes who caught my attention was when Gene and Hi-5 met Jailbreaker, more like a hacker emoji that was said to be able to help a princess emoji to go out in the Textopolis and be an emoji she wants. I like the scene of whenever they’re going to an app in order to get to the cloud, one of it was Candy crush in which they play in order to get Gene out of the game, because the game think that Gene was a candy because of his color. After that they play “Just dance” to danced ato move out to the next level (means they’re going out on the game through dancing) and they did it but Hi-5 got separated and Alex trashed the app along with Hi-5 in it.
It may seem a bit odd, but the film focuses on an “unpopular emoji” which is the Meh emoji, audiences like me expected that the “smile emoji” should be the protagonist in the story because most of people use it. But in the end, Smiler became the antagonist of the story and be able to delete Gene because of his “Malfunction”. It’s quite disappointing that Smiler is not the main character in the film that’s all.
The conspiracy of the people who exert their effort to make this film was awesome, the story was good and some of the audiences can relate especially when it comes on relationships. The undying love of Mel Meh to his wife Mary Meh (parents of Gene) shows that even though they are “Mehs” they can experience love at each other. Even though they’re different emojis, the love of Jailbreak to Gene can be synthesize, and when Gene is in trouble Hi-5 and Jailbreak help him before Smler deletes him. Unexpectedly, Jailbreak wants to save Gene even though her plan being a “number one” will never be achieved.
I rated this movie 8/10 even though Smiler was the antagonist the film turns out great, yet most of audience prefer Smiler to be the protagonist of the story because she is the most common to be used in emojis unlike Gene, who is a Meh. The way the producers animate emojis was great and be able to bring the message of the story to the audiences. But it is all worth to watch, and most of the people can relate to the “love” relationships that can uplift this movie rather to its dismantle dislikes of the protagonist.
