Happy Death Day is a horror film in which it starts when a teenage girl named Tree waked up in her birthday multiple times finding her “stuck” in this day. Never thought that birthdays can be symbolic, in this case the story revolves to Tree, her capability to survive her multiple deaths over and over again until she solves her own murder mystery.

The first scene of the movie starts when Tree wake up in the morning, finds herself in some kind of a dorm with Carter, a boy who “save” Tree on something. So the attitude of Tree based on the movie was really rude, self-centered person who doesn’t care of the feelings of others. First she doesn’t even say “Thank you” to Carter for taking care her and let her sleep in his own dorm room.

Second, when his Dad called her 2 times, she just ignored him by not answering her phone. Third, she kinda broke-up with Tim, by ignoring him again, never realizing how much he was worried about her. Fourth, Lori make her a cupcake because it’s her birthday and what she did, she throw it in the trash can. Fifth, she had an affair to his professor, Dr. Butler before they’ve been caught by his wife. So after the last scene, was some creepy guy with a mascot chasing her, and he killed her in somehow.

And after that, the same scene repeat all over again, there are some dialogues which are change. Like for Carter, he said that “It’s like you have been here before”. And Tree looks at the quote on Carter’s Dorm which it said, “Today will be the first day of the rest of your life”, a little weird when I first look at it but understand what it was portraying as you go on in the movie. So Tree learned that she will be killed by “someone” with a mask, so she tries to get away to that same thing she did and never thought it work. But only in a mean time, I realize it doesn’t work and realizes that she was murdered again.

Same day repeat over and over again until Tree decided to tell Carter, so he plans to write all her murder suspects including his boyfriend, Tim, Danielle, Gregory, I thought this solution would work, but in the end she was murdered again.

For these scenes of Tree, having multiple deaths, unlimited lives, waking in the same day over and over seems boring as you progress in the movie. On her 14th time she re-spawn she knows the killer, which was surprising because I, myself didn’t notice that he was there all along. Carter save her but immediately dying, for Tree he was about to kill his killer, the most unexpected thing she did. She suicide, like literally, because she thought if she will survive this one, Carter will be gone forever.

So she killed herself, for I think she has concerns for Carter now, risking his own life to save her. The 15th time she lived on the same day, she tries to be nice. She helps the girl in her somewhat “STOP GLOBAL WARMING” issue. A sprinkler which is about to be active, she warns the couple before they could’ve been wet.The boy who will about to faint for some reason, she gave the pillow at the right time before he falls. She broke up with her boyfriend, for she now knows the truth that she is a gay. She accepts Lori’s cupcake gift and plans to eat after she deals her killer. She even accompany Becky, to eat carb food in which in their organization is prohibited. She apologize to his Dad, talked to him about what she felt when her mother was gone. In this scene you will know that Tree was hurt about the loss of her mother. After that, I thought it’s officially solved because she even killed her killer but when she wake up, it was the same day again.

For 16 times she tries to know her killer, was solved with the unexpected plot twist. Lori was the mastermind of Tree’s murder, because of her prejudice leaves her to do something bad to Tree. She was jealous because Dr. Butler chose to have an “affair” to Tree rather than her. So her planned was to sabotage her by eating a poison cupcake, if it doesn’t work she will entrust someone to kill Tree. So Lori set Joseph Tomb to kill Tree because of her jealousy as I said a while ago.

Curiosity of the audiences what makes this movie extraordinary, in the fact that the producers gave symbolic meanings in order to understand the real plot of the film. Producers tend to repeat the crime scene all over again, in order to find the killer with an attitude of being a “detective” which we find it fun and thrilling. They set all the possibilities of Tree being killed in every loop she’s been through for 16 times. We’re curious on how Tree get her attitudes like that, but there are some scenes which talks about her past life, but it’s not complete. We wanted to know the story of her family, her past life, because a person like Tree, doing what he wants without thinking the consequences, have a grievous problem in her life. We also think of having those “loop in her own birthday” helps Tree to realize her mistakes, and tries to start a new life with Carter.

The way the producers set they’re angle of cameras to focus on a certain scene, makes this movie unique. A good horror film should be able to harmonize both the sound effects and the angle perspective view of the audience. If a certain scene needed to be suspense or thrilling they should be able to focus that scene, the person who acts on it and the scenery of the background so that it will be symmetrical in the film.

I rated this film 8/10 not bad for a horror movie, and pretty inspiring when u get the plot of this film. Although there are many symbolic scenes in which I think the audiences can interpret based on Tree’s looping scenes and possibilities of Tree being killed by her murderer.
